This Lively ski resort is among the biggest and most famous in the world. Les 2 Alpes was built in 1946 on the former high pastures of Venosc and Mont de Lans, two parish villages in the Isère where the northern and southern Alps meet. Les 2 Alpes is effectively a long strip with ski runs running the length of resort on both sides. The majority of runs and the largest skiing area all starts on the eastern face of the resort, making this a ski-in / ski-out destination in the truest sense. The ski area is an absolute paradise for lovers of snow sports and is home to the famous FREESTYLE LAND snow park. 2 Alpes can even boast snow-sure conditions throughout the season thanks to the glacier that rises to 3,600 meters.

The Best Bits

The Skiing

This place really is a fantastic playground for all levels of skier. The beginner slopes are all on the doorstop of the resort, making for an effortless learning experience. You then have a complete mix of runs all the way up to the glacier as well as Le Grave off-piste ski area and snow park also. The skiing here really will satisfy all and in the unlikely even that you aren’t entirely satisfied, you can also enjoy a whole day free in Alpe d’Huez as part of your 2 Alpes ski pass.

The Aprés

For a lot of you, this is probably the first bit you’re going to read… Everything you hope for and expect when it comes to aprés is well and truly catered for here. The lack of a Folie Douce is soon forgotten after your first 3-5 happy hour session in Pano Bar and as for the rest of the bars and clubs in 2 Alpes, there are more than enough top nights to keep you loving life, including foam parties at Maya’s and live music (amongst other things) at Smithy’s.

Travel

The closest airport to Deux Alpes is Grenoble airport, which is 110km away and takes around 1.5-2 hours to drive to. Chambery is 121km away and takes 1h 45 and Lyon 2 hours to drive to. Geneva is the furthest at 220km and takes just over 3 hours. Ben’s Bus offer great value shared transfers to 2 Alpes.

Skiing Level

Les Deux Alpes caters for all levels of skier, but can especially appeal to beginners due to its green and blue runs located higher up on the glacier. This is great for beginners as it means their learning can take place in better snow conditions, rather than at the base of the piste like most other resorts. As for expert skiers, they can head over to La Grave which is the biggest lift accessed off-piste skiing area in the world

Is This Resort For Me?

Les Deux Alpes caters for all levels of skiers but definitely suits beginners well because of the many green and blue runs located higher up  on the glacier. This is great for beginners as it means their learning can take place in better snow conditions as well as means they can experience the stunning panoramic views that beginners often miss out on. What has made Les Deux Alpes even more appealing, is the opening of the ‘Jandra 1’ blue run in December 2015. This run starts on the glacier and allows skiers to descend the glacier entirely on a blue run, a total of 2,000 vertical metres. This run has made the descent into the village much more agreeable that in the past for beginners and early stage intermediates. As for expert skiers, you can head over to La Grave which is the biggest lift accessed off-piste skiing area in the world.
